[Tile] Mosaic Textures

Mosaic tile lives or dies on its grout lines — get the joint width, depth, and color wrong and even a good tile pattern reads as a flat decal. This collection covers small-format mosaic, patterned ceramic, and mixed-tile mosaic layouts, built with grout depth baked into the surface relief rather than left to a separate shader trick.

What's in this collection

  • Small-format mosaic — uniform small tiles, dense grout pattern. Bathroom floors, pool surrounds, backsplashes.
  • Patterned ceramic — decorative repeating motif across standard tile sizes. Kitchens, feature walls, Mediterranean-style interiors.
  • Mixed mosaic — irregular tile shapes and sizes combined in one layout. Artistic floors, murals, accent panels.
  • Hexagonal and geometric — non-square tile geometry. Modern bathrooms, retail flooring, feature walls.

All tiles are seamless in both directions and delivered at high resolution.

Where mosaic tile is used

Architectural visualization. Bathrooms, kitchens, pools, and feature walls — mosaic tile is one of the highest-scrutiny surfaces in interior renders because clients evaluate pattern and grout choice directly against real product catalogs.

Game environments. Historical, Mediterranean, and upscale interior settings, plus decorative flooring in any architecture-heavy level.

Product and design visualization. Tile manufacturer catalog renders and pattern-preview tools.

Film and set design. Period and location work where floor and wall tiling needs to read correctly at both wide shots and close inserts.

How to use these in Blender

  1. Import the texture into a Principled BSDF, connecting RGB to Base Color.
  2. Add a Bump node from a Non-Color copy into Normal, strength 0.2–0.35 so the grout lines actually recess rather than sitting flush with the tile face.
  3. Vary Roughness between tile face and grout using the texture as a mask — glazed tile should be noticeably glossier than the grout between it.
  4. For hero shots, add a thin Displacement pass so the grout line casts a real micro-shadow.

How to use these in Unreal Engine 5

  1. Import the texture and create a new Material.
  2. Feed the texture into Base Color and use a supplied or generated Normal map for the grout recess.
  3. Mask Roughness so glazed tile faces read glossy (low roughness) while grout stays matte (high roughness).
  4. For floor applications, check tiling scale against a human-height reference — mosaic reads wrong immediately if the tile size is off.

How to use these in Unity

  1. Drop the texture into your project's Assets folder.
  2. Create a Material with a Standard or Lit shader and assign the texture to Albedo.
  3. Assign a normal map to the Normal Map slot for the grout line depth.
  4. Set Smoothness high (0.6–0.8) for glazed tile, and use a secondary mask if your shader supports per-channel roughness for the grout.

Tips for mosaic tile specifically

Grout color changes the entire read of a pattern. Dark grout on light tile emphasizes the individual pieces; grout matched close to the tile color reads as a more unified surface from a distance.

Check tiling seams carefully — mosaic patterns are one of the fastest materials to reveal an obvious repeat, since the eye locks onto grout line alignment more easily than it does on organic textures like stone or wood.

Real installations are rarely perfectly flat. A very subtle height variation between individual tiles (via a secondary low-frequency bump) adds believability without looking damaged.
