[Rubber] Rough Textures

Rough rubber textures cover unfinished, coarse-surfaced rubber — anti-slip mats, raw butyl sheeting, and closed-cell foam before any polish or coating is applied. The grain scatters light unevenly, which is what separates a convincing rubber render from a plastic one.

What's in this collection

  • Anti-slip surfaces — raised grain patterns designed for grip.
  • Butyl and chloroprene sheets — industrial rubber compounds with a coarse finish.
  • Closed-cell foam rubber — dense, fine-pored surface texture.
  • Grip and matting patterns — raised texture for flooring and handle grips.

All tiles are seamless in both directions and delivered at high resolution.

Where Rough Rubber is used

Industrial and flooring design. Anti-slip mats, gym flooring, and workshop surfaces.

Automotive parts. Weatherstripping, floor mats, and under-hood seals.

Product design. Tool grips, phone cases, and protective housings.

Game props. Tires, hoses, and industrial equipment detailing.

How to use these in Blender

  1. Connect base color and roughness maps to a Principled BSDF.
  2. Keep roughness high to avoid a glossy, plastic-like specular highlight.
  3. Use the grayscale map as a bump input to capture the coarse grain.
  4. Render a close-up test to confirm the grain reads at your camera distance.

How to use these in Unreal Engine 5

  1. Build a Material from base color, roughness, and normal maps.
  2. Keep roughness values high and consistent across the surface.
  3. Use a Material Instance to adjust tint for different rubber parts.
  4. Check under an HDRI to confirm the surface doesn't read as glossy.

How to use these in Unity

  1. Assign maps to a Lit material's albedo, normal, and smoothness slots.
  2. Lower smoothness so highlights stay broad and diffused.
  3. Adjust tiling to match your mesh's UV scale.
  4. Preview in real-time lighting to confirm the coarse, matte finish.

Tips for Rough Rubber specifically

Roughness value matters more than color here — keep it consistently high, since even small glossy patches read as plastic instead of rubber.

Slight dust or grime buildup in the grain sells an outdoor or industrial rubber surface more than a clean one.

For grip and matting patterns, make sure the raised pattern direction matches how the real product would be walked on or gripped.
