[Alpha] Stain Textures

Stain alphas fill each letter with a fine horizontal stripe pattern in a cool violet tone, somewhere between a woven fabric and a dyed surface. The repeating lines give flat type a sense of density that a solid color fill never quite manages.

Free for personal and commercial use. No attribution required. Commercial games, film, and client work are all permitted. No credit, no backlink, no permission request needed. You may not resell or redistribute the texture files themselves as a texture pack.

How to use these in Photoshop

1. Drag the PNG directly onto your canvas as a new layer.
2. Use Free Transform to scale and kern individual letters by eye.
3. Adjust Hue/Saturation if the design calls for a different tone than violet.
4. Group repeated letters as a Smart Object for reuse across a layout.

How to use these in Figma

1. Drag each PNG in as its own image layer.
2. Auto Layout the letters into a row to build custom word marks.
3. Use a color overlay blend mode to shift the stripe tone if needed.
4. Nudge kerning manually since these aren't a variable font.

How to use these in After Effects

1. Import each letter PNG as a separate footage layer.
2. Position and scale them into your word or phrase.
3. Add a Tint effect to shift the stripe color to match your palette.
4. Pre-compose the finished word before adding further effects.

Tips for Stain Alpha specifically

The micro-stripe pattern can shimmer or moiré at small sizes on screen — test at your actual output resolution.

These sit well on a plain white or black background, where the violet stripe reads clearly.

Because kerning is manual, sketch the word length first so the layout doesn't run out of canvas.
