[Rubber] Closed Cell Foam Textures

Closed cell foam textures cover the dense, waterproof foam used in padding and gaskets — unlike open-cell foam, the surface looks solid and smooth rather than sponge-like, since the cells never break open at the surface.

What's in this collection

  • Textured closed cell foam — the standard dense, slightly matte surface.
  • Rough closed cell foam — a coarser worn finish for older stock.
  • Case liner panels — flat sheet cuts for padded case interiors.
  • Gasket stock — thin strip-ready material for sealing edges.

All tiles are seamless in both directions and delivered at high resolution.

Where Closed Cell Foam is used

Equipment case liners. Padded interiors for camera and tool cases.

Weatherstripping and gaskets. Door and window seals in architecture scenes.

Flotation props. Life jackets, buoys, and marine equipment.

Protective padding. Helmet liners and sports equipment interiors.

How to use these in Blender

  1. Unzip the pack into your textures folder.
  2. Load the base color map into a Principled BSDF's Base Color input.
  3. Plug the normal map through a Normal Map node for the dense surface grain.
  4. Keep specular low to moderate for the semi-matte closed cell look.

How to use these in Unreal Engine 5

  1. Import the maps and let UE5 build the material instance.
  2. Wire base color, normal, and roughness into a new Material.
  3. Set roughness moderately high to avoid a rubbery gloss.
  4. Apply to case or gasket meshes and check tiling at close range.

How to use these in Unity

  1. Import textures and set the normal map's texture type to Normal Map.
  2. Create a Material with the Standard or URP Lit shader.
  3. Assign albedo, normal, and roughness maps to their slots.
  4. Set Smoothness low for the dense, non-reflective foam surface.

Tips for Closed Cell Foam specifically

Keep this texture's surface reading solid, not porous — closed cell foam shouldn't look like a sponge, so avoid overly deep pore detail in the normal map.

Edges cut from closed cell foam often show a slightly different texture than the face; a separate edge material sells close-up case shots.

Use a subtle color shift for foam that's aged near sunlight versus foam kept in a dark case interior.
