[Plastic] Acrylic Textures

Acrylic plastic sits between glass and standard plastic: it can be clear, frosted, or tinted, but it always keeps that slightly softer, warmer sheen glass doesn't have. It's the material behind signage, display cases, and countless product enclosures where real glass would be too heavy or too easy to crack.

How to use these in Blender

  1. Add a Principled BSDF and plug the texture into Base Color.
  2. Set Transmission near 1.0 for Clear Acrylic, lower for tinted variants.
  3. Raise Roughness for Frosted Acrylic to scatter light softly.
  4. Enable Screen Space Refraction in render settings for realistic depth.

How to use these in Unreal Engine 5

  1. Create a Material and set Blend Mode to Translucent.
  2. Feed the texture into Base Color and Opacity.
  3. Adjust Refraction for a convincing acrylic thickness look.
  4. Increase Roughness for frosted variants to soften reflections.

How to use these in Unity

  1. Create a URP/Lit or HDRP material and set Surface Type to Transparent.
  2. Assign the texture to the Base Map and lower Smoothness for frosted looks.
  3. Enable Refraction if your render pipeline supports it.
  4. Tint the Base Color for colored acrylic variants.

Tips for Acrylic Plastic specifically

Clear Acrylic reads best with a strong rim light behind it — flat lighting makes it look like plain plastic.

Frosted Acrylic works well as a diffuser plane in front of a light source for soft glow effects.

Keep edge thickness visible in your model; acrylic's characteristic green-tinted edge sells the material instantly.
