[Ground] Dry Textures
Dry ground shows up wherever moisture has left the surface — pale, cracked earth, brittle grass, and dust-fine soil. It instantly reads as arid climate, drought, or late-summer heat without needing any other visual cue.

What's in this collection
- Dry cracked grass — brittle, pale ground cover with fracture lines.
- Dry gravel — dusty, sun-bleached loose stone fill.
- Dry mud — a formerly wet surface baked hard and split.
- Dry soil — fine, loose earth with a pale, chalky tone.
All tiles are seamless in both directions and delivered at high resolution.
Where Dry Ground is used
Desert and drought environments. Games and film set in arid regions rely on dry ground as the default terrain.
Seasonal environment variation. Dry ground swaps in for wet or lush ground to show late-summer or drought states.
Climate and disaster visualization. Documentaries and educational content use cracked dry ground to communicate drought conditions.
Post-apocalyptic settings. Dry, cracked terrain is a standard shorthand for abandoned or ruined landscapes.
How to use these in Blender
- Import base color, normal, and roughness maps in the Shading tab.
- Connect each map into a Principled BSDF's matching input.
- Use a Mapping node to set crack scale relative to your terrain.
- Boost roughness for a chalky, sun-bleached surface finish.
How to use these in Unreal Engine 5
- Import the texture set into your Content Browser.
- Build a Landscape Material with Base Color, Normal, and Roughness.
- Use Landscape Layer Blend to fade dry ground into wetter areas.
- Paint the layer onto terrain with the sculpt tools.
How to use these in Unity
- Add the maps to your Textures folder with correct import types.
- Create a Terrain Layer from the dry ground albedo and normal maps.
- Assign it in the Terrain component's paint tool.
- Reduce Smoothness to zero for a fully matte, dusty look.
Tips for Dry Ground specifically
Pale, desaturated base colors sell "dry" faster than any crack pattern — check your color grading before adding detail.
Keep roughness near maximum; dry ground never produces a specular highlight, even in direct sun.
Scatter a light dust or particle overlay near foot and vehicle paths for extra realism in motion.
