[Paper] Kraft Textures

Kraft paper is unbleached pulp, so the fibre is visible and the colour is never flat. Its surface is slightly fuzzy rather than smooth, which is what separates it from printer stock.

What's in this collection

Bookbinding. Cover stock and endpapers in period scenes.

How to use these in Blender

1. Load the map into Base Color and keep Metallic at 0.
2. Set Roughness around 0.85; kraft has almost no gloss.
3. Add a very light Translucent mix so thin sheets glow when backlit.
4. Use a low-strength Bump node for fibre, not displacement.

How to use these in Substance and design tools

1. Use the tile as a base layer in Substance Painter and mask logo artwork over it.
2. In Photoshop, set the texture to Multiply over flat artwork to pick up fibre.
3. Keep the texture at 100% scale for realistic packaging mockups.
4. Add a soft inner shadow along fold lines rather than painting them dark.

How to use these in Unreal Engine 5

1. Import at 2K and tile 1–2 times per parcel face.
2. Keep specular low and roughness high across the whole sheet.
3. Use a decal for printed labels instead of baking them into the tile.
4. Add slight normal variation at fold edges for close shots.

Tips for kraft paper specifically

Kraft is warm brown, not orange. Oversaturating it makes packaging renders look like cardboard cutouts.

Fibre direction runs with the roll. Keep it consistent across a single sheet or the material reads as noise.

Creases in kraft stay sharp because the fibre breaks. Soft rounded folds belong to fabric, not paper.
