[Crystal] Amethyst Textures

Amethyst is quartz with iron impurities, so its purple is uneven by nature — concentrated at crystal tips and nearly clear at the base. A flat purple tile misses what makes the stone recognisable.

What's in this collection

  • Natural amethyst — clustered points with graded purple saturation.
  • Rough amethyst — unpolished matrix face with broken crystal edges.
  • Geode section — cavity lining with radial crystal growth.
  • Polished amethyst — cut surface with visible internal banding.

All tiles are seamless in both directions and delivered at high resolution.

Where amethyst is used

Fantasy environments. Cave veins, magic crystals and glowing formations.

Product rendering. Jewellery, decorative slabs and mineral displays.

Interior visualization. Feature stone panels and backlit inlays.

VFX elements. Refraction and dispersion tests for crystal shaders.

How to use these in Blender

  1. Use a Glass or Principled BSDF with Transmission near 1 and IOR 1.54.
  2. Drive Base Color from the texture so purple varies rather than sitting flat.
  3. Add volume absorption tinted violet for depth inside thick crystals.
  4. Keep Roughness under 0.1 on polished faces, near 0.4 on broken ones.

How to use these in Unreal Engine 5

  1. Use a translucent material with refraction enabled for hero crystals.
  2. Add Fresnel-driven emissive for magic props so edges glow.
  3. Use the opaque tile version for background clusters to save cost.
  4. Enable Lumen reflections so surrounding light shows in the facets.

How to use these in Unity

  1. Create a URP Lit material in Transparent mode with Smoothness above 0.9.
  2. Assign the texture to Base Map to keep colour variation.
  3. Add an emissive mask for glowing crystal variants.
  4. Use a reflection probe; crystals look dead without one.

Tips for amethyst specifically

Purple should deepen toward crystal tips. Uniform saturation is the fastest way to make a render look like coloured glass.

Facet edges catch a bright thin highlight. Rounding them in the normal map removes exactly the cue that says crystal.

Keep the surrounding matrix grey and rough. High contrast between dull rock and clear crystal is what sells the material.
